Last week, I came up with an idea for practicing English listening. I went to find "The Last Lecture of Randy Pausch" I had listened before. Originally, I got the link from my lecturer, Aj. Jittat. I then got it in 3gp file, so I can watch it from my mobile phone while I am traveling, e.g., to TOEFL class.
At this time, I can understand contents more than I did before. The more I understand, the more perceptive I get. His lecture was filled with inspiration, encouragement, ambition, positive perspectives. Thus, I like to quote them here in order to remind myself and other who may find them useful.
"I don't choose to be an object of pity."
"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted."
"Brick walls are there for a reason; they let us prove how badly we want things."
"Wait long enough and people will surprise and impress you; when you piss off somebody and angry at them, you just haven't given them enough time."
"To have a childhood dream, we have to have good parents." (I really have great mother and father.)
"It's just a thing (car, house, etc.), no matter how valuable it is, as long as I don't make a child feeling guilty."
"Get a feedback loop; and listen to it!" (I have to practice more on it.)
"Show Gratitude"
"Don't complain; just work harder."
"Be good at something: it makes you valuable."
"Be prepared: 'luck' is where preparation meet opportunity."
"The talk is not about how to achieve your childhood dream. It is about how to live your life."
"If you live properly, the dream will come to you."
While I am writing this post, searching for materials, I find out that, instead of the full version taken from Carnegie Mellon, there is an summarized version still containing all gists of the lecture. The below video is the latter version (approximately ten minutes rather than one hour.)
